For more that three decades, Ed Gordon, 57, has served as the president of Imperial Consulting Corporation, a company he founded as a diversified consulting practice emphasizing human development. He specializes in individualized education, skill training, assessment, and the development of critical thinking abilities. His clients include education institutions and government agencies, as well as Fortune 500 companies across the United States and Canada.
Based out of Chicago and Palm Desert, California, he often consults on school reform, education policy, career education, and workforce development. Dr. Gordon is an internationally recognized expert on tutoring and literacy issues. For 20 years he taught in higher education at DePaul, Loyola, and Northwestern universities in Chicago.
From 1968 to 2003 Edward Gordon founded and was the principal administrator of Imperial Tutoring and Educational Services. During that time over 10,000 children and adults from preschool to college levels were tutored in their homes, schools, or other locations, either individually or in small groups. An additional 20,000 adults were tutored in workplace settings. In 1982 Imperial Tutoring was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Imperial was the first tutoring program to ever receive this professional recognition by any accreditation agency.
Dr. Gordon has worked with scores of educational institutions and government agencies, including: the U.S. Department of Education, Los Angeles Unified School District, New York University , the University of Wisconsin, the North Carolina Community College System, and state agencies of California, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Ohio, New York, and North Carolina. His corporate clients have included Microsoft, Motorola, IBM, Clorox, Fireman's Fund, Marriott, J.C. Penney, and Walgreens. He also has been of service to the American Institute for Research, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the American Management Association, and the Phi Delta Kappa International Foundation.
He has written 16 books, including the newly published title, The Tutoring Revolution, and Peer Tutoring, Tutor Quest, Centuries of Tutoring, Literacy in America, and The 2010 Meltdown: Solving the Impending Jobs Crisis.
Media Appearances: Dr. Gordon has been featured in or quoted in over 100 publications including: the New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and Education Week. He has also been interviewed on national television shows, including: the CBS network's, "The Early Show," CNN's "Morning News," Bloomberg's "Small Business," CNN's "For Entrepreneurs Only," and CNN's 'Taking It Personally." Gordon has also appeared on NPR, USA, and Yahoo national radio programs.

Presentations: Gordon has spoken before more than 100,000 people, giving presentations at major conferences of such groups as the following: National Council of State Directors of Adult Education, National Council for Workforce Education, National Tutoring Association, Education Industry Association, American Education Research Association (AERA), International Reading Association (IRA), associations for adult and continuing education in California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, American Management Association, the Conference Board, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Elaine H. Gordon co-authored Literacy in America: Historic Journey and Contemporary Solutions and Centuries of Tutoring: A History of Alternative Education in Western Europe and America with Edward E. Gordon. She is the Vice President for Research at Imperial Consulting. Previously she was the instruction librarian at DePaul University for fourteen years and a reference librarian at the University of Illinois Chicago for five years. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Political Science from Manhattanville College, Purchase, New York; a M.A. in Political Science from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; an M.L.S. from Dominican University, River Forest, Illinois; and graduate studies in Political Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
